Energy Type: Hydroelectric Energy

Source: Moving Water

1. How is this energy converted/transferred into usable energy?
Hydroelectric Energy is converted/transferred into usable energy by water flowing through tunnels in a dam, to turn turbines and drive generators. This makes electricity.

2. How is this type of energy used today?
Hydroelectric Energy is used today in homes, buisnesses and factories. The power from the generators produce power into the homes, buisnesses and factories. Hydroelectric Energy is also used in the Hoover Dam which creates electricity through out Las Vegas.

3. What are the advantages of using Hydroelectric Energy?
The advantages of using Hydroelectric are:
  • No waste or pollution produced
  • Its more reliable
  • Water can be stored
  • Electricity can be generated constantly

4. What are the disadvantages of using Hydroelectric Energy?
The disadvantages of using Hydroelectic Energy are:
  • Harming wildlife
  • Water quality and quanity can be affected
  • Large dams cause flooding
  • Expensive to build

5. Is Hydroelectricity renewable or non-renewable?
